Horses, hiking, bits and Bobbies -
England
People too Nice to Forget
People I met that were too nice to
forget...This page is just for you!
Brian
and Carol
I met this delightful couple at Kew Gardens. I photographed them feeding
birds late in the day and upon noticing this they offered to take my
photo. A conversation was started up and my time with them simply flew by;
we closed Kew that day. I expect if my childhood dream of a "real family"
from England had ever showed up and whisked me away to a magical life in
merry old England, it would have had to have been a couple very like these
two wonderful, gracious, and kind people. I will never forget them.
Peter
I met Peter on the plane on the way over. He was the lucky fellow who got
to baby sit me during my first commercial flight. Poor man! (Have I
mentioned I am terrified to illness of flying?) Peter told me so much
about his life and his country, and he kept me sane when the plane did
it's quirky little plane things that left me ill. Peter, thank you!
John
Cato
I met John at Victoria Park just behind the Parliament buildings in
London, and on my first day of sight seeing. John is a photographer from
New York and like myself was enjoying his visit to England immensely. He
was the first to offer to take photos of me in front of some spectacular
building or sight. He walked along with me for a while and made me realize
there would be nothing "lonely" about traveling in this country on my own.
Friendly and interesting people would apparently just wander up and
present themselves!
Patrick
Patrick simply charmed me! He is a wonderful fellow who is lucky enough to
be a Warder, and to live, at the Tower of London. At a time when he should
have been throwing me out of the place, he instead allowed me to tag along
while he did rounds before closing, all the while sharing with me some in
depth and fascinating information about the tower. Then he offered me a
free pass to come back and do it again, since I was not sure my 260 photos
of the place were really quite enough. Ah... I said yes!
Tower
Warders
I want to take a moment to mention all the other Warders at the Tower. I
found each and every one of them to be wonderfully friendly and extremely
helpful. I want to give a special thanks to the fellow guarding the Crown
Jewels. I was not allowed to photograph him (no photos are allowed inside
the building) but I thoroughly enjoyed his "insiders look" at the
building, the history, and the security of the place. Sometimes what you
can't see is the most fascinating stuff of all.

Tower Employees
While I am on the topic of the Tower I must mention the other staff I
encountered along the way. Again I found them cheerful, informative, and
far friendlier than I have ever experienced in my travels elsewhere on
this planet.
More coming here for sure!
